Golf Cart Maintenance Tips & Tricks

Summer is here, which, depending on where you live,  means it’s time to put your golf cart to good use. Whether you use your golf cart in your community, or on a golf course it is smart to stay prepared to ensure your golf cart lasts. Golf cart ownership is a significant investment so you want your cart to last.

When you own your own golf cart, you want to keep it in peak condition for optimal performance. With this in mind, your owner’s manual is a great resource for information regarding your specific cart’s maintenance or safety precautions. Additionally, if you follow the below tips for golf cart up keep you are sure to see lasting results.

 1.  CHARGE YOUR BATTERIES

So this one may seem obvious for your ability to get from A to B, but that doesn’t make it less important. After EVERY use, charge your golf cart. It is best to keep the batteries fully charged before the next use.

2.  FILL BATTERY CELLS, BUT NOT TOO MUCH

Maybe you use your golf cart year round, or only in the summer months. Regardless of frequency of use it is important to check water levels every one to three months. Always make sure the lead plates are completely submerged. If you need to refill the battery cells, only do so AFTER you’ve charged the cart. After charging the cart add distilled water (not tap water) to about 1/4 to 1/2 inch above the plates.

 3.  CLEAN THE BATTERIES

Check the batteries for corrosion, dirt, grass, and properly-tightened connections. This is important, not only for the lifespan of your batteries and cart, but also your safety.

 4.  KEEP THE TIRES FILLED

You’ll want to check the air pressure on your golf cart tires every month. This is especially important with sudden (extreme) weather fluctuations. This helps prevent uneven wear on your tires making them last longer.

 5.  CHECK THE BRAKES

It’s important to have your brakes checked once a year. If you only use your breaks seasonally, we suggest thoroughly checking, cleaning and adjusting the pads, drums, cables, and pedal before your first use of the season.

 6.  KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR OIL LEAKS

Check the rear differential at the back of your golf cart for excessive oil or dirt on the outside. If you notice an excess of either, you may have an oil leak.

 7.  HAVE YOUR GOLF CART SERVICED ONCE A YEAR

If you are particularly handy you can save money by handling routine maintenance for your golf cart. But we suggest an annual professional check of your golf cart at minimum. They can help with brake checks, oil leak repairs and more. They can even ensure that you don’t run into issues from internal (and often unseen) damage.

Properly maintaining your golf cart will help to ensure it’s in prime condition for years to com
